Save the Children in China organizational introduction
Save the Children is the world's leading independent organization for children, working in 120 countries. Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. Around the world including China, we work every day to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm.
We have been working in China since the 1980s. We now work in 12 regions with projects related to children’s education, health, protection, youth development, disaster risk reduction and child rights governance. By the end of 2015, we have spent RMB 570 million on the Chinese mainland. Our work has benefited millions of children and their families. With Disney’s generous support in 2015-2017, STC has been working in 3 schools and 3 communities in 3 different townships in Xichang municipality to build the resilience and capacity of children, schools and communities against disasters. As a continuity of previous Disney-funded DRR project, a new phase of 1-year project scaled up to cover all 11 primary schools in the target 3 townships and plus 1 centre school in another county by using consolidated common intervention approaches addressing CSS Pillar 2 – School Disaster Management and CSS Pillar 3 – Risk Reduction and Resilience Education. The goal of the project is to make children more resilient against future disasters and all-hazard risks through using a comprehensive approach to school safety, piloting materials (including FDPAB, teacher guidance and learning activities, visual presentation materials, and Family Disaster Plan) and trainings, and engaging key stakeholders.
