TITLE:  Campaigns, Communications and Media Senior Officer

TEAM/PROGRAMME:

CONTRACT LENGTH: 2 years

ROLE PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of the Campaigns, Communications and Media Senior Officer position is to develop quality content for internal and external communications materials for the organisation and to oversee the content production and management.

 

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 

Content production and management

-       Support the Head of Campaigns, Communications and Media in developing Content guidelines for the CO, to support the communication and campaign strategy for Save the Children in China.

-       Oversee the content ecosystem, decide what to keep, update, improve or remove. 

-       Work with the Programme Development and Quality team and the Programme Operations team to develop key messages for each thematic areas

-       Identify strong story angles linked to our thematic programme work that highlight the situation of children and their needs: Report, write and produce high end human interest stories from the field that are well researched, well reported and demonstrate the positive changes Save the Children’s work bring to children;

-       Provide guidance and input to Programme Development and Quality team and the Programme Operations team to develop external communications materials such as video, leaflet, poster, programme materials etc

-       Contribute to regularly updating the team’s editorial calendar.

-       Lead the development and growth of social media platforms

-       Manage the multimedia library on server (including photos, videos and case study)

-       Assist in procurement process related to design work

 

Communication platforms and products

-       Support the maintenance of Save the Children’s multiple information platforms including SC China Chinese language website and English language microsite, China Program page on the global intranet (One Net), regional, global and thematic newsletters and Workplace, on a regular basis to ensure they’re updated and reflect our work;

-       Update China Program’s standard information package (English and Chinese) including but not limited to organizational introduction, where we work map, PPT, SCI standard case study, photo story and success story, etc;

-       Compile the monthly internal newsletter with support from Area Managers and build it as an effective internal communications tool;

-       Compile the China Program’s annual review for external audience in both Chinese and English, ensuring its timely delivery and of high quality as a tool to inform and engage external stakeholders;

Management of external Communications partners

-       Oversee independently contracted photographers/videographers to ensure high quality multimedia content production (including photo essays, video clips, etc);

-       Oversee independently contracted copywriters, graphic designers, and partners to guarantee quality of content

 

Campaign

-       Support Head of Campaigns, Communications and Media to design and implement child-participation activities for campaigns

-       Support Head of Campaigns, Communications and Media to liaise with key partners to build alliance or take joint initiatives for campaigns, in close collaboration with CO Partnerships Advisor.

 

Capacity building for staff

-       Provide editorial and copywriting support to staff for communication materials;

-       Support the Head of Campaigns, Communications and Media to build capacity of staff in terms of communications and media work through training and mentoring;

-       Provide or organize spokesperson training workshop

 

Implement brand guidelines 

-       Act as an important Save the Children brand guardian, providing advice and review services for all staff, as well as suppliers, to ensure they’re in line with Save the Children global brand guidelines;

 

Media

-       Support Head of Campaigns, Communications and Media in dealing with media inquiries and engage media to help build SC’s reputation and credibility as an authoritative voice on children-related issues with wide global experience; maintain the media and journalist database;

 

Others

-       Support emergency communication;

-       Manage volunteers and interns, providing support and motivation;

-       Comply with the requirements of Save the Children’s child safeguarding and     other policies;

      -      Perform such other tasks and responsibilities as may be required from time to time       in order to ensure the smooth running of the team and Save the Children China.

QUALIFICATIONS 

·         Bachelor/Master degree in public relations/mass communications/marketing

·         Excellency in written/spoken Mandarin and ideally competent to work in English-speaking working environment

·         Good organizational skills, with strict attention to details in all tasks and a focus on meeting deadlines

·         Strong interpersonal communication skills

·         Confident IT skills to enable the production of visually appealing and professional Word, Excel and PPT documents

·         A commitment to support cross-organizational initiatives and to team working and understanding of how to contribute to this

·         An understanding of and commitment to, the aims of Save the Children as an organization working for social change and active in the promotion of the rights of the child

·        Ability to operate within a predominantly administratively self-servicing environment


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

At least 3 years working experience in communications/media industry

 

Desirable

·      Photography and video editing skills;

·      Experience of working in development or humanitarian assistance;

·      Experience in delivering training, coaching or mentoring others.
